Seed Thoughts as We Begin a New Year

Posted on: Jan 4, 2012

As we begin the New Year it is a good time to examine our ministries, churches, and personal lives. The other day in my devotional reading about the Cities of Refuge I came across an interesting commandment regarding the necessity of making sure that these special cities were easily accessible to the person needing help.

In the Living Bible you will read these words: "Keep the roads to these cities in good repair." (Deuteronomy 19:3) Wow! This might be the time of year for a good "ROAD INSPECTION!"

Thoughts that can be developed are:

Roads in bad repair:

  • Have potholes that are destructive

  • Barricades that prevent access

  • Little orange barrels that bore you. (Now there's a thought! How much of our church and ministry is simply showing them the same orange barrels they have been looking at for years? No wonder they are bored.

  • Often become one lane that forces everyone to travel at the same speed.

  • Impedes progress

  • Cause people to avoid the road completely. (No traffic flow.)

  • Create negative talk about "how bad that road is."

Question to ask ourselves: What road do I need to repair? Do I have a maintenance plan to prevent "Bad Roads" in my life, church, and ministry?

Just quick random thoughts, but you are a bunch of preachers and teachers. As one of my mentors used to say, "Now go put some meat on that and preach it!" Maybe or maybe not. Let me hear from you, and Happy New Year!

Be blessed,

Your friend,

Kemp

About Our Chairman

Kemp Holden and his wife Carol were married in 1964 and formed a powerful ministry team preaching the gospel not only in the United States but soon their passion for missions would take them to the island of Jamaica where they founded and built a church and a school on the north coast. Soon after returning to the U.S., they felt God calling them to Fort Smith, Arkansas where they built Harvest Time Tabernacle. They watched those small beginnings grow to one of the largest churches in the region with not only a local focus but a global impact. After 38 years as senior pastor, having mentored his successor, Pastor Marty Sloan, he led the transition and passed the baton to the new senior pastor. Pastor Holden now serves as Pastor Emeritus of Harvest Time where he and his family attend.
