All of us know that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday and in the midst of giving gifts to each other we want to be sure and remember to give a gift to the one whose birthday we celebrate.
What a tragedy if we have a big party and bring gifts to everyone except the one whose birthday we celebrate.
All of us know the story of the wise men who brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. (Maybe some tie between these two thoughts or sentences, but not absolutely necessary). But what do you give to a God who has everything? What is it you can give Him that He does not have? Wait? Is their something that God does not have that He desperately wants this Christmas?
In my devotions this past week I came across a verse that I had never noticed before. It answers the big question that all sincere Christians ask. “What can I give God for Christmas?” There is an answer in:
Revelation 5:9,109 They were singing(b) him a new song with these words: “You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it; for you were slain, and your blood has bought people from every nation as gifts for God. 10And you have gathered them into a kingdom and made them priests of our God; they shall reign upon the earth.” Living Bible
So…what does God want for Christmas?Answer: “people from every nation as gifts for God.”
What a powerful thought to be communicated to us as God’s family! This is what He wanted when He died! This is what He wanted when He rose from the dead! This is what He wanted when He sent us His gift of the Holy Spirit!
How can we bring Him the gift He really wants?Since almost all of you are preachers and teachers I am confident you can develop this into a powerful message this Christmas! Would love to hear from you.
(b) 5:9 singing, literally, “saying,” or “said”; also in vv. 11-12.
Kemp Holden and his wife Carol were married in 1964 and formed a powerful ministry team preaching the gospel not only in the United States but soon their passion for missions would take them to the island of Jamaica where they founded and built a church and a school on the north coast. Soon after returning to the U.S., they felt God calling them to Fort Smith, Arkansas where they built Harvest Time Tabernacle. They watched those small beginnings grow to one of the largest churches in the region with not only a local focus but a global impact. After 38 years as senior pastor, having mentored his successor, Pastor Marty Sloan, he led the transition and passed the baton to the new senior pastor. Pastor Holden now serves as Pastor Emeritus of Harvest Time where he and his family attend.
